The Embassy of India in Tehran has issued a fresh advisory urging Indian nationals to leave Iran at the earliest, even as a ceasefire has been announced in the ongoing conflict involving Iran and the United States.
In its April 8 advisory, the embassy stated, "In continuation of the advisory of 07 April 2026, and in light of recent developments, Indian nationals still in Iran are strongly advised to expeditiously exit Iran, in coordination with the Embassy and using the routes suggested by the Embassy."

Earlier warning to stay indoors
A day earlier, the embassy had advised Indians to remain indoors for 48 hours and avoid sensitive areas. The advisory stated, "Indian nationals who are still in Iran must stay where they are for the next 48 hours, avoiding all electric, military installations and upper floors of multi-storey buildings, remaining indoors, and coordinating any highway movement strictly with the Embassy."
Ceasefire deal and diplomatic efforts
The advisory comes despite a temporary ceasefire between Iran and the United States. The agreement, announced shortly before a deadline linked to Donald Trump, includes a limited reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The White House also said that Israel had agreed to the arrangement.
Further diplomatic efforts are underway, with Iran set to hold talks with Washington starting Friday in Islamabad. Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan would host delegations aimed at reaching a "conclusive agreement".
Despite the ceasefire, uncertainty persists. Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei signalled that the situation remains fragile. In a statement aired on state media, he said, "This is not the end of the war but all military branches should follow the Supreme Leader's order and cease their fire."
