The Pahalgam attack and its aftermath
The attack occurred in April 2025 in the Baisaran meadows in the Pahalgam region of Anantnag district. Terrorists from Pakistan-affiliated group Lashkar-e-Taiba attacked people, thus becoming one of the deadliest attacks against tourists in recent times. The attack was conducted by The Resistance Front, which is believed to be a proxy force of the group.
India responded with a military offensive against terror infrastructure on the other side of the border. Counter-terror measures were also intensified in the Valley region in subsequent months.
On the first anniversary of the event, people are expected to remember this day while acknowledging security issues in the country.
