Air travel between India and China is seeing a steady revival, with Air China resuming its direct Beijing to Delhi service. The route will operate three times a week using Airbus A330 aircraft, offering passengers a direct link between the two capitals after a prolonged disruption. This marks the second restoration of an India-bound route by Chinese carriers in April, pointing to a wider reopening of connectivity between the two countries.
Multiple airlines rebuild connectivity network
According to The Times of India, the resumption follows China Eastern Airlines restarting its Kunming to Kolkata service, which now runs six weekly flights. The airline had earlier brought back the Shanghai to Delhi route, further strengthening links between major cities. On the Indian side, IndiGo has been actively expanding its footprint, launching new routes such as Kolkata to Shanghai and resuming services to Guangzhou from both Kolkata and Delhi. These additions indicate rising demand, with passenger load factors remaining strong across several routes.

Aviation boost reflects improving ties
The renewed flight operations come at a time when diplomatic and economic relations between India and China are showing signs of easing after years of strain. Recent policy moves, including relaxed norms around certain Chinese investments and clearer timelines for approvals, have contributed to a more positive business environment. Improved air connectivity is seen as a practical step that complements these policy changes by facilitating easier movement of people and goods.

Wider impact on trade and travel
Experts believe that increasing flight frequencies will not only benefit travellers but also support trade, technology collaboration and supply chains. Enhanced connectivity is expected to reduce logistical costs and make business travel more efficient, particularly for sectors like manufacturing and electronics. As more airlines scale up operations, the revival of direct routes is likely to play a key role in strengthening economic engagement and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
