Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two new Delhi Metro corridors - the Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur section of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park stretch of the Magenta Line. Along with this, he laid the foundation stones for development projects valued at approximately ₹33,500 crore in the national capital.

A public gathering was also addressed by the prime minister during the occasion. A day before the inauguration, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated on Saturday that the ongoing expansion of the metro network is playing a key role in strengthening the city's public transport system. She further noted that the Delhi government has made public transport a priority in its 2025-26 budget.

The prime minister inaugurated the Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur section of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park stretch of the Magenta Line. The Pink Line extended to 71.56 kilometres after the launch. This extension completed the country's first fully operational "ring metro" that runs around large parts of Delhi, as per a Hindustan Times report.

According to the Hindustan Times earlier report, stations along this stretch include Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar before Maujpur-Babarpur.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said connectivity between north-east and north-west Delhi has been strengthened by the project. Travel across several parts of the Capital will also become quicker. With the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park corridor, the Magenta Line reaches close to 49 kilometers in length.

The Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park stretch is notably an extension of the Botanical Garden-Krishna Park Extension Magenta Line. Seven elevated stations, including Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor and Bhalswa, are part of this stretch. A new bridge over the Yamuna and a double-decker viaduct carrying both a metro track and a road flyover are also featured in the Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur section.

Delhi metro's next chapter: Foundation stone for three new corridors laid

Under Phase 5(A), Modi laid the foundation stone for three new Delhi Metro corridors. The Central Vista corridor is one of them. It is an underground stretch of 9.913km, connecting Ramakrishna Ashram Marg and Indraprastha. Another corridor is the Golden Line extension between Aerocity and Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1. This is a 2.263km underground stretch.

The third corridor is also a Golden Line extension, running from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj. It is a 3.9km elevated stretch. The government believes these corridors will boost connectivity between Delhi and nearby NCR cities. Noida, Faridabad and Ballabhgarh are among the cities that will benefit.

Works worth around ₹15,200 crore related to the redevelopment of General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) colonies were also launched and had their foundation stones laid by Modi, apart from the metro projects. A day before International Women's Day, Gupta used the Saheli Pink National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) to travel on a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus. The card gives women the benefit of free travel on DTC buses.
