Large parts of North India are set to witness another round of snowfall and rainfall from the weekend, as a fresh Western Disturbance approaches the region, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.

According to the weather reports, the system is expected to affect the western Himalayan region from January 31 to February 2, with the possibility of heavy snowfall and rainfall on February 1. Light to moderate rain is also likely over the plains of northwest India and adjoining parts of central India during this period.

“A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region from January 31 to February 2, with the possibility of heavy rainfall and snowfall on February 1. Light to moderate rainfall is also likely over the plains of northwest India and adjoining central India,” the IMD said in its advisory.

Fog and cold conditions to continue

Along with rain and snow, dense fog is expected to persist in isolated pockets over northwest India, adjoining central India, and parts of eastern India till February 2. Several areas have already been experiencing reduced visibility during early morning hours.

In Delhi, the weather is likely to remain partly cloudy over the next few days, with shallow to moderate fog at many places. The IMD has forecast maximum temperatures between 17°C and 19°C and minimum temperatures ranging from 6°C to 8°C in the national capital.

On Friday, Delhi is expected to see a cloudy sky with shallow fog, while temperatures may hover between 20°C and 7°C. A spell of very light rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, is likely on Saturday, according to the department.

Cold wave conditions have also been reported in parts of Himachal Pradesh, where the IMD earlier warned of cold to severe cold day conditions. Isolated hailstorm activity was recorded in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, central Maharashtra, and Delhi over the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan witnessed wet weather on Wednesday. Eastern Rajasthan reported light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning, while minimum temperatures rose slightly in several northern states, including Jammu and Kashmir.

Weather officials said the fresh disturbance may lead to prolonged cold conditions in hilly and adjoining plains, and advised people to remain cautious, especially in regions prone to snowfall, fog, and waterlogging.
