A regular Sunday evening outing ended in heartbreak in Delhi’s Gujranwala Town when 16-year-old Class 11 student Kabin Kumar fell from a rooftop and later died from his injuries. Police received a PCR call at around 5:51 pm reporting that a boy had fallen from a height at the Invitation Restaurant in the Model Town area. By the time authorities arrived at the scene, Kabin had already been hurried to a nearby hospital by his companions. Doctors at Pentamed Hospital declared him dead, leaving friends and family devastated by the sudden loss.
What the police found at the scene
Investigations so far imply that Kabin and three of his classmates, Aryamen, Kabir, and Yash Tyagi, had gone out together. They went out, reportedly to play billiards and hang out before the incident. The group climbed to the restaurant’s rooftop via a staircase, where Kabin climbed onto a plastic shed installed between bordering shops. The structure could not hold his weight, collapsed under him, and he fell to the ground below. Police are dealing with the case as an accidental fall at this stage, and forensic teams have examined the site to reconstruct what happened.
While the police narrative points to a tragic accident, Kabin’s father has conveyed serious doubts about the events of his son’s death. According to his statements to NDTV, he challenged how Kabin reached a height of nearly 100 feet, where the plastic shed was located, and why there was no clear access path to that spot. He also conveyed concern that his son’s friends were not present during the hospital transfer and reported a prior dispute for which a case had been registered at a local police station, therefore implying that foul play could not be ruled out.

Ongoing police inquiry
Delhi Police conveyed that they are continuing their investigation and have not yet drawn conclusions about the incident. Forensic teams remain involved in investigating evidence at the restaurant and surrounding structures to determine how the tragic fall occurred. The authorities will also be examining statements from Kabin’s friends and any CCTV footage available from the premises to build a clearer picture.

Calls for stricter enforcement of building safety regulations and clearer signage around high spaces have grown louder in the wake of this tragedy.
