The Election Commission of India (ECI) has deleted 2.89 crore names from the voter rolls of Uttar Pradesh through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The draft list for the state was released today by the ECI, NDTV reported.
Voter deletions in Uttar Pradesh
Now, Uttar Pradesh will have 12.56 crore voters, down from 15.44 crore in October 2025, when the SIR exercise commenced.
Of the 2.89 crore names removed from the electoral rolls, 2.17 crore have relocated, 46.23 lakh people are dead, and 25.47 lakh people have multiple registrations in their names.

ECI issues statement
The ECI said in a statement, "A total of 12,55,56,025 electors, out of 15,44,30,092 electors as per the Electoral Roll on 27.10.2025, have submitted their Enumeration Forms till the last date of enumeration period i.e., 26.12.2025 reflecting an overwhelming participation in the first phase of SIR." The statement added, "Genuine electors from the above can still be added back in electoral roll during the Claims and Objection period (06-01-2026 to 06-02-2026) by filling up Form-6 along with Declaration Form and other relevant documents."

The draft electoral rolls released for West Bengal saw the deletion of 58 lakh names. In Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, the voter list was shortened by 97 lakh and 74 lakh voters, respectively. In Assam, the names of 10.56 lakh voters were deleted from the list, post-SIR.
