Over 100 people have been hospitalised in Indore, Madhya Pradesh allegedly after consuming contaminated drinking water. Three people have died so far, as per government records, while locals claim a higher number. The mayor has informed that the incident occurred in the Bhagirathpura locality of the city, The New Indian Express reported.
Financial assistance announced
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced a financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh to the families of the deceased. He has also declared that the state administration will bear the medical expenses of those admitted.

Locals have claimed that five people have died so far after consuming the contaminated drinking water. The dead include four women, the locals claimed. The municipal councillor of the locality has informed that, the residents of the affected locality had complained on December 25 that the water supplied that day had an unusual smell, and that people were falling sick after drinking it, The New Indian Express reported.
Leakage detected
Dilip Kumar Yadav, Municipal Commissioner, has said that the body has detected a leakage in the main water supply pipeline at a spot in Bhagirathpura. The municipality has found that a toilet has been constructed over the point of contamination.
Dr. Madhav Prasad Hasani, Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) informed that the health department reached 2,703 households and tested close to 12,000 people, after they got news of a diarrhoea outbreak in Bhagirathpura.

He stated that 111 patients with relatively serious conditions were admitted to various hospitals, and 18 of them were discharged after receiving treatment.
