An Indian-flagged mechanized sailing vessel, MSV Virat 1, was involved in an incident off the coast of Oman on Sunday, June 14, with 14 Indian crew members on board, per the Indian Embassy in Oman.

In its first public post on X, the embassy said, "The mission has learned of an incident involving an Indian-flagged mechanized sailing vessel, Virat 1, off the coast of Oman, reportedly embarked with 14 Indian crew members." Search and rescue is being coordinated with the Omani authorities and vessels in the vicinity of the incident.”
The embassy later updated the situation, saying the vessel had suffered an engine failure and that the crew had moved to a liferaft.

Salvation arrives in the nick of time
NDTV said the vessel was identified as MSV Virat 1 and reported that rescue operations were being handled with Omani authorities and other vessels nearby.
The crew abandoned the ship and embarked on a liferaft dropped by a maritime patrol aircraft. The embassy repeated that “it has emerged that the vessel experienced an engine failure, and the crew eventually transferred safely to a liferaft.”
The incident took place about 80 nautical miles east of Ras Al Hadd, off Oman. The rescue operation had been launched after the vessel began to sink.
At the time of the latest reports, the response remained under way, with the embassy and maritime agencies continuing to coordinate the effort.
