Ayush Mhatre was in excellent rhythm for the Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing IPL. However, he suffered a hamstring tear in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He played a blitz of 30 runs which helped Chennai score 76 runs in the powerplay. The World Cup-winning captain has had a beautiful outing so far and played an important role in the Chennai batting. The yellow army has displayed beautiful batting so far but if the tear is big then it will be a big blow for the yellows.
Ayush Mhatre has made 201 runs in 6 matches with a strike rate of 177.87, he has hammered 12 sixes so far. His contribution has remained valuable for the Chennai Super Kings.

Mike Hussey, CSK batting coach praised the young talent saying, "He's an exciting young talent, but it's going to give someone else an opportunity. So that's exciting as well.We've got some really good players that haven't been able to get an opportunity. And so it's going to be exciting for one of those guys.”
Who can replace Ayush Mhatre?
Chennai Super Kings have a few options in their own team,they have built a very young core and so far many of them have impressed with their good performances.

Urvil Patel
Urvil Patel, the clean striker of the ball, has played a big role in CSK’s late comeback in the 2025 season. Last year, he set the stage on fire after hammering Gujarat, scoring 37 runs in 19 balls. Against KKR, he played an innings of 31 runs in 11 balls. His strike rate was nearly 282. He also loves to bat at the top of the order, he can come in really well for CSK. He has shown great performance in the domestics also.
Prashant Veer
Coming with a left-arm bowling option, the young cricketer has already caught attention. Against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he played an innings of 43 runs in 29 balls.

If CSK thinks of going with an extra bowling option he can be a good option in the middle. If he comes into the team Shivam Dube will get an opportunity to come at number 4.
Kartik Sharma
Another 14.20 crore paid to Youngstar, has shown resilience in the middle but has failed his net performance in the pitch. If he comes in, CSK will have a proper batter. Will CSK give him more chances or will they think of preparing him for the next season that will be an interesting choice.
