MS Dhoni eyes return; Michael Hussey shares key fitness update

Michael Hussey signals Dhoni’s return soon, with batting form intact but running fitness still under recovery and evaluation.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the nerve and heart of Chennai Super Kings has already missed 6 matches due to a calf injury. After almost missing half of the tournament Chennai Batting coach, Michael Hussey indicated his return. Chennai Super Kings have won two matches out of six matches this season. The Chennai supremo who has created his own legacy by winning five IPL trophies. Though, gradually, Ruturaj Gaikwad is learning to manage the team.

In the last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, CSK failed to make 18 runs in the last over, and social media was flooded, with reels as the fans missed the Mahi magic. 18 runs in 6 balls and Dhoni finishing the matches in style, it had become a habit for the yellow army.

Chennai Super Kings is now at number 7 with four points in six matches. With MS Dhoni nearing his full fitness, Mike Hussey gave an important update on it.

What does Mike Hussey say?

Michael Hussey expressed satisfaction with MS Dhoni’s batting form, noting that the veteran is striking the ball well. However, he highlighted that Dhoni’s primary focus during recovery is regaining peak running fitness and improving speed between the wickets, particularly for sharp singles in the latter stages of an innings. While Hussey remains uncertain about a definitive return timeline, he is optimistic that Dhoni will be back in action soon.

Talking in the post-match press conference, the CSK batting coach said, "As you saw yesterday at training, he's batting well. He was very happy with where his batting was. He's just about progressing with his running, because if he's going to bat towards the back end of the innings, he's going to have to scurry back for those twos and things like that. He just needs to get confidence in his running and build that speed up. I don't know when he'll play, but I'm hoping it's sooner rather than later, like all the fans are.”
