India Post has opened the window for recruitment by accepting online applications for 28,636 vacancies under the GDS Recruitment 2026 process. The last date for completing the online registration process for the January 2026 recruitment drive is today, February 14. The vacancies are for positions, including Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS), Branch Postmaster (BPM) and Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) positions in several states.

Vacancies and eligibility

Total vacancies: 28,636, with major focus on GDS, BPM and ABPM posts

Vacancies by state: Vacancies are state-specific, so the applicant can choose the state of their preference

Eligibility criteria: Should have passed Class 10 from a recognised board of education

Selection criteria: Entirely based on Class 10 marks; no written examination required

Age criteria: Should be at least 18 years old and not more than 40 years as of January 1, 2026

Age relaxation: Available for the reserved category as per government guidelines

Fees and selection process

Application fee: Rs 100 for General, OBC and EWS categories

Exemptions: Available for the SC, ST, Female and PH/PWD categories
