As temperatures drop, dryness in the air first shows its impact on the heels of the feet. Prolonged exposure to wet feet, wearing open sandals, lack of regular care, and internal dehydration together worsen the problem of cracked heels. It not only looks unpleasant but can also cause pain, burning sensations, and even infections in severe cases. However, with regular care and a few simple home remedies, cracked heels can be managed easily.
The first and most important step is regular exfoliation to remove dead skin cells from the heels.

Before going to bed at night, soak your feet in lukewarm water to soften the skin. Adding a spoon of salt along with a little baby shampoo or body wash enhances the effect. After soaking your feet for 10–12 minutes, gently scrub the heels using a pumice stone or a soft brush. This helps remove dead skin and makes the feet smooth.
Next comes the use of natural moisturising packs. Coconut oil is one of the most effective remedies. Warm a small amount of coconut oil and massage it into your heels before bedtime. Wearing socks afterward allows the oil to absorb overnight, leaving the skin soft and nourished.
Another highly effective ingredient is aloe vera. Applying fresh aloe gel to cracked areas and wearing socks overnight works wonders. Aloe vera has antiseptic and healing properties that reduce pain and irritation while promoting skin repair.
A time-tested remedy is a mixture of glycerin and rose water. Mixing equal quantities and applying it daily on the heels softens cracked skin within a few days. You may add a few drops of lemon juice, but those with sensitive skin should avoid lemon.
A homemade crack-healing cream can also be prepared using Vaseline and lemon juice. Mix lemon juice into a spoonful of Vaseline to form a thick paste. Apply it generously at night and wear socks to help the skin recover faster.

Apart from these home remedies, daily habits play a very crucial role. Keep your feet clean, apply a moisturiser after every bath, and drink plenty of water. Dehydration reflects directly on the skin, making it dry and prone to cracks.
