The snow is already beginning to melt, and the high passes are opening up. Ladakh is officially gearing up for its biggest tourist season yet, according to News18.
Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has reportedly confirmed that flight operations at Leh Airport have been scaled up from just 8 flights to 18 flights a day as of April 2, in a post on X.

The biggest tourist season
This move is said to be designed to handle the anticipated influx of travellers seeking the mystical landscapes of the North.
Ladakh is all set to welcome a larger number of visitors than before, News18 has reported. For travellers planning their summer itinerary, the increased frequency provides much-needed flexibility.
The current schedule reportedly strengthens Leh’s relations with key cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Srinagar and Chandigarh.
Ladakh is the premier destination
While the focus is on welcoming more feet on the ground, the administration is keeping a sharp eye on the region’s fragile ecosystem. On March 26, LG Saxena reportedly inspected vital water conservation and land development projects at Stok village and Chuchot Thongser.
The clear goal reportedly is to position Ladakh as a premier destination while addressing local challenges like water scarcity and ensuring that the tourism boom translates into sustainable livelihoods for the Ladakhi people.

What should be on the traveller’s checklist?
Acclimatisation is key, as even with better flights, the altitude remains the same. Travellers should at least spend 48 hours in Leh before heading to Nubra or Pangong.
They also must ensure that their Inner Line Permits (ILP) are applied for online in advance.
Lastly, tourists should carry reusable water bottles to support the local administration’s conservation efforts.
