Modern Olympic Games inaugurated (1896)

April 6, 1896, witnessed the start of the first modern Olympic Games held in Athens, Greece. Initiated by Pierre de Coubertin, the game was an inspiration taken from ancient Olympics and is considered to be the basis of the modern sports movement.

Salt march arrived at Dandi (1930)

In 1930, on this day, Mahatma Gandhi came to Dandi in Gujarat and launched his famous Salt March. This march was against the salt laws established by the British in India.
