Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2026 campaign has stumbled right out of the gate, with Chennai Super Kings suffering a hat-trick of defeats under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad. The five-time champions have looked out of rhythm in both departments, and the absence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni has only amplified their struggles. With “Thala” yet to feature this season due to injury, fans have been eagerly awaiting clarity on his comeback timeline and the latest update has finally provided a glimmer of optimism.

What is the new update?

Initially ruled out for at least two weeks, Dhoni was expected to miss multiple games. However, recent developments suggest that his return could arrive sooner than anticipated.

The veteran wicketkeeper-batter has rejoined training and resumed batting practice, signaling positive progress in his recovery. A crucial fitness test is scheduled within the next couple of days, which will ultimately determine his availability for CSK’s next fixture.

Fitness test to decide Dhoni’s availability for Delhi clash

CSK are set to face Delhi Capitals on April 11 at their fortress, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With a few days still in hand, the team management remains cautiously optimistic about Dhoni regaining full fitness in time for the clash. Notably, the franchise has taken a conservative approach so far, avoiding any risk with their most experienced player.

Dhoni had stayed back in Ranchi during CSK’s initial away fixtures, focusing on recovery and controlled practice sessions. His potential return at Chepauk could be a pivotal moment in CSK’s season, not just from a tactical standpoint but also in terms of morale and leadership.

Meanwhile, there’s additional good news for the Chennai camp. Dewald Brevis, who missed the first three matches due to a side strain, is nearing full fitness. Head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed that the young South African is likely to be available for the upcoming match. His return is expected to bolster the middle order, which has lacked consistency so far.

As CSK look to reset their campaign, the possible return of Dhoni alongside Brevis could mark the beginning of a much-needed revival.
