An aircraft operated by IndiGo suffered minor damage after being struck by an unmanned catering vehicle at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport on Tuesday, according to airline officials.

The aircraft was parked on the apron when the incident occurred. IndiGo said a third-party catering truck moved on its own and came into contact with the stationary aircraft. No injuries were reported.

Aircraft grounded, probe underway

In a statement, IndiGo said the aircraft has been grounded and is undergoing detailed inspection before being cleared for operations.

“A third-party unmanned vehicle on the apron moved and came in contact with a parked IndiGo aircraft… The relevant authorities have been informed,” the airline said. The aircraft was scheduled to operate flight 6E 6663 from Kolkata to Guwahati. An alternate aircraft was arranged to ensure minimal disruption to passengers.

Recent aviation safety concerns

The incident comes amid a series of aviation-related events in recent months.

In an incident earlier this year, two aircraft in Mumbai airport made contact with each other as they brushed against each other’s wing tips while on the ground. Earlier, in August 2025, the tail of an IndiGo Airbus A321 had brushed against the runway while making a go-around in Mumbai.

Recently, a plane belonging to Turkish Airlines had to make an emergency landing in Kolkata due to a fire in one of its engines.
