The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is in deep talks to bring former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait to coach Bengal with the ball.

Shaun Tait is currently the fast bowling coach of Bangladesh. He had an interview with Arun Lal, Devang Gandhi, and Kalyan Chowdhury by the CAB before the appointment. The three, along with a few others, were posted as men's head coaches for the Bengal senior team.

The panel retains Laxmi Ratan Shukla for the time being, and recommends Tait and former national selector Surendra Bhave for the Bengal team. On Wednesday, the panel continues their focus and announces Shukla as its head coach.

Shukla and Tait's lead for Bengal and Bangladesh

Under the coaching of Shukla, Bengal has made a decent performance in the Ranji Trophy. In the season of 2022-23, Bengal were the runners-up and semi-finalists with respect to their previous years. But Shukla has failed to lead Bengal to bigger stages.

On the other hand, Tait has led Bangladesh to victories, with credit for the recent win against Pakistan by selecting the young player Nahid Rana on the team.

Shaun Tait's probable possibilities on CAB

According to some Bangladesh insiders, Tait is likely not to move on from his current role in the Bangladesh team, with negotiations between the CAB and him on the official discussions.

Though, as per reports a CAB source has said, “The possibility of appointing Tait as the state fast bowling coach, which includes looking after all age groups, cannot be ruled out yet. Now, given Tait’s profile, it will cost the association an arm and a leg to get him on board. It could take ₹2 crore or more.”

The negotiations and the probabilities have brought down CAB to a dilemma.
