BSF personnel and border service
Addressing BSF personnel, Shah praised their service in difficult conditions and said they guard the border with determination despite severe climatic and geographical challenges.
He described the BSF as the country’s “First Line of Defense" and said nearly 2,000 personnel have made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. Shah also said the force has operated in temperatures ranging from minus 45 degrees Celsius to plus 45 degrees Celsius and across terrains that include the deserts of Kutch and Rajasthan, the marshlands of Sir Creek and Harami Nala, Kashmir, the Sundarbans, Gangasagar, and parts of the Northeast.

Border infrastructure and security upgrades
Shah said a review carried out after he became Union Home Minister had identified security infrastructure gaps in the Harami Nala and Sir Creek regions.
He said the government has launched a plan to build what he called a leak-proof security grid, with watchtowers, roads, drinking water facilities, medical infrastructure, accommodation, and new fencing.
He added that the region would be fully secured within the next two years and said the Modi government is using technology to strengthen border security, including the deployment of drones, radars, advanced surveillance systems, and watchtowers under the Smart Border Security Project.

Outreach, inspections and the road ahead
During the visit, Shah also highlighted a public outreach center in Banaskantha, saying more than 2.5 lakh people had visited it in the past month and that feedback from visitors reflected strong public support for the force. Akashvani reported that he was scheduled to inaugurate Border Outpost G-7, visit the control room at OP Tower 1170, take a boat tour of Harami Nala, and plant a tree at the jetty point. Later in the day, he was to chair a high-level meeting on border-related issues at the BSF Sector Headquarters in Bhuj.
