India moved into a commanding position in the one-off Test against Afghanistan after a dominant all-round display on Day 2 in New Chandigarh. After building on their strong Day 1 effort, the hosts declared their first innings at a massive 564/8 before striking early with the ball to leave Afghanistan under immense pressure.
Resuming the day from a position of strength, India continued to pile on runs through contributions from several batters. Captain Shubman Gill added a magnificent century, while Rishabh Pant played an aggressive knock that kept the scoreboard moving. The lower order also chipped in valuable runs, helping India cross the 500-run mark before the declaration came.

Afghanistan found some success with the ball during the morning session, with their bowlers claiming a few quick wickets. However, India’s batting depth ensured that the visitors were unable to prevent the hosts from posting a daunting total. The declaration at 564/8 handed India a huge advantage and put Afghanistan under immediate scoreboard pressure.
Suthar makes dream Test debut
The highlight of the day came from debutant left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, who made an immediate impact in his first Test appearance. Suthar struck in his very first over and consistently troubled Afghanistan’s batters with sharp turn and disciplined bowling.

youngster removed key batters and finished the day with three wickets, emerging as India’s standout performer with the ball. His spell helped India seize complete control of the contest and justified the faith shown in him by the team management.
Afghanistan struggle in reply
Facing a mountain of runs, Afghanistan endured a difficult start to their innings. Regular wickets disrupted their progress as Indian bowlers maintained relentless pressure from both ends.

A brief resistance from the middle order offered some hope, but India continued to dominate proceedings. By stumps, Afghanistan remained far behind India’s first-innings total, with the visitors still facing a massive deficit heading into Day 3.
