Panic at Ohio festival as gunfire erupts, multiple people injured

At least eight people were injured after a shooting near Toledo's Old West End Festival in Ohio. Police have launched a search for the suspect as investigations continue.

An Ohio event took place where violence broke out during the community celebration following shootings that left many wounded at the Old West End Festival.

This shooting took place at night as it is usually held during the time of the annual celebration, which sees many visitors turn up due to the presence of music performances, food vendors, shopping spots, and tours around historical homes in the region.

As stated by the Toledo Police Department, law enforcement units attended to reports of gunfire, only to discover a number of victims who were shot. The victims were rushed to local hospitals for medical attention.

Police launch manhunt as investigation intensifies

Police confirmed that an active search is underway for the suspect or suspects involved in the shooting. Residents and festival-goers were urged to avoid the area as officers secured the scene and began gathering evidence.

Toledo City Council member Theresa Morris said at least eight people were injured in the attack, describing the incident as a tragic setback for a festival that has long served as a gathering point for families and visitors.



Law enforcement agencies remained at the scene for several hours as investigators worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Witnesses describe scenes of panic

Some witnesses gave accounts of the sense of panic that gripped the festival-goers when the gunshots broke out. Kevin Berry, who was among those at a live musical event happening at the arboretum close to the festival, says that he heard several gunshots and saw people running to seek shelter.

According to Berry, his observation was that a gun was found after the shooting in the vicinity where the gunshots had been fired from. As a former US Navy sailor with medical skills, Berry was reportedly moving around trying to help those in need. His account was that he came across a number of casualties who had been shot in the area.

It was noted that the law enforcement agents who were already on duty in the festival rushed to secure the place.

Communities shocked by gunshots

Ohio's governor, Mike DeWine, reacted to the shooting saying that such places should always be safe for families.

This Old West End Festival has always attracted thousands of spectators to the city of Toledo in Ohio.

As investigators continue to review evidence and interview witnesses, authorities have appealed to anyone with information to come forward. No arrests had been announced at the time of publication.
