India ends Australia’s nine-year home streak with a historic T20 Series triumph. India’s women’s cricket team scripted history on Australian soil, clinching the three-match T20I series 2-1 with a commanding 17-run victory in the decider on Saturday. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, the visitors achieved what no team had managed in nearly a decade — defeating Australia in a bilateral T20 series at home. The win not only sealed the series but also ended Australia’s nine-year unbeaten run in home bilateral contests, a streak that had stood firm since 2017.

Nine-year dominance finally broken

Australia had not lost a T20I series at home since 2017, maintaining an extraordinary record of consistency across formats in bilateral competitions. That dominance came to an end as India held their nerve in the series finale. Harmanpreet’s side outplayed the star-studded Australian unit in crucial moments, earning a landmark overseas triumph and etching their names into the record books.

Mandhana and Rodrigues set the platform

After winning the toss, Harmanpreet opted to bat first. Early setback came with Shafali Verma departing for seven, but Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues steadied the innings with a decisive 121-run partnership.

Mandhana led the charge with a sublime 82 off 55 deliveries, striking eight boundaries and three sixes in a fluent display. Rodrigues complemented her perfectly, crafting a composed 59 from 46 balls. Richa Ghosh added late impetus with an 18-run cameo as India posted a competitive 176 for six.

Bowlers seal a famous win

Australia’s chase never truly gathered momentum. Georgia Voll and Beth Mooney failed to convert their starts, while Phoebe Litchfield managed 26. Only Ashleigh Gardner offered resistance with a fighting 57 off 45 balls.

India’s bowling attack maintained relentless pressure. Shreyanka Patil and Shree Charani claimed three wickets apiece, while Arundhati Reddy chipped in with two crucial scalps. Australia were restricted to 159 for nine, handing India a historic 17-run victory and a series win that will be remembered as one of their finest overseas achievements.
