World Cup finals are often remembered for defining individual brilliance, a lone century, a match-winning spell, or a decisive moment under pressure. Rarely do they showcase collective batting domination from the top order. But the India national cricket team delivered exactly that in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final, scripting a historic first as three of their top-order batters scored fifty-plus runs in the same title clash. The performance not only powered India’s innings but also etched a rare record into World Cup history.

A rare collective performance in a World Cup final

Finals tend to test nerves more than skill, and teams often depend on a single standout knock to carry the innings. India, however, produced a coordinated batting display that kept the scoreboard ticking and the pressure firmly on the opposition.

Abhishek Sharma set the tone with a rapid 52 off 21 balls, launching the innings with fearless strokeplay and ensuring an explosive start. He was followed by a commanding knock from Sanju Samson, who anchored the innings with 89 off 46 deliveries, blending aggressive hitting with measured partnerships. His innings ensured India maintained momentum through the middle overs.

Completing the historic trio was Ishan Kishan, who produced a fluent 54 off 25 balls, accelerating the scoring rate and sustaining the attacking approach. With three top-order batters crossing the fifty-run mark, India maintained relentless pressure on the bowlers throughout the innings. Such collective dominance at the top of the order is rarely seen in World Cup finals, where early wickets and mounting pressure often disrupt batting rhythm.
