India’s cricket scene has a new name everyone is talking about — Vaibhav Suryavanshi. At just 14 years old, the young batter is doing things that many seasoned players can only dream of. With every match, he is surprising fans, former cricketers, and experts alike, and his recent performances have only made the buzz louder.
Suryavanshi making big records
Suryavanshi’s latest knock in domestic cricket has put him firmly in the spotlight. Veteran politician and cricket lover Shashi Tharoor captured the excitement perfectly in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Reacting to the young batter’s feat, Tharoor wrote, "The last time a fourteen-year-old showed such prodigious cricketing talent, it was Sachin Tendulkar — and we all know what became of him. What are waiting for? Vaibhav Suryavanshi for India!"
The 14-year-old made headlines on Wednesday with a stunning 36-ball century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Plate league opener. Playing for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh at the JSCA Oval Ground, Suryavanshi showed fearless batting well beyond his years.
His hundred is now the second-fastest by an Indian in List A cricket, only behind Anmolpreet Singh’s 35-ball century last season. On the global stage, it is also the joint fourth-fastest List A century ever recorded.

Thanks to his explosive knock, Bihar posted a huge 574 for 6 in 50 overs. The team then bowled Arunachal Pradesh out for 177, sealing a massive 397-run win.
Earlier this season, Suryavanshi had also smashed an unbeaten 108 off 61 balls in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Maharashtra at Eden Gardens, proving his talent is no one-match wonder.
