In a major off-field development, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have confirmed that left-arm pacer Yash Dayal will sit out the IPL 2026 season. The decision comes amid serious legal allegations against the cricketer, which has cast uncertainty over his immediate playing future.
The franchise clarified that the move is temporary and based on current circumstances rather than a permanent exclusion.
IPL journey and performances
Dayalâs IPL career has seen both highs and learning moments. While he impressed with early breakthroughs and control, he also faced challenges in high-pressure games. Despite this, franchises continued to back his potential as a developing fast bowler.
At RCB, he was seen as a key Indian pace option, adding depth to their bowling attack.

Legal situation impacts selection
Dayalâs absence is directly linked to an ongoing legal case, making his participation in a high-profile tournament like the IPL untenable at this stage. The situation has prompted RCB to act cautiously, balancing legal sensitivity with team integrity.
Despite the controversy, RCB have not released Dayal. The franchise has chosen to honour his existing contract, indicating that no final decision on his long-term future will be taken until there is more clarity on the legal front.
Who is Yash Dayal?
Yash Dayal is an Indian left-arm fast bowler who rose to prominence through domestic cricket and the IPL. Known for his ability to swing the ball and deliver in powerplay overs, Dayal has been regarded as a promising pace option in Indiaâs T20 circuit.
He first gained attention during his stint with Gujarat Titans, where he was part of a title-winning squad, before moving to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
RCB Director of Cricket Mo Bobat provided an extensive update on the situation, underlining the franchiseâs approach.
âWe are aware of the situation involving Yash Dayal and have been in regular communication with him,â Bobat said. He stressed that the franchise is supporting the player on a personal level, while also prioritising the teamâs environment.
He shared, âAt this point in time, given the nature of the circumstances, we believe it is in the best interests of both Yash and the franchise that he does not participate in IPL 2026.â Bobat also highlighted that RCB are closely monitoring developments and will take decisions accordingly. âWe will continue to follow the situation as it evolves and take a considered view going forward.â

RCB made it clear that while Dayal will not feature this season, he is not being abandoned. The management remains in touch and has extended support, reflecting a measured and human approach to the situation.
Dayalâs absence leaves a gap in RCBâs pace attack, especially considering his contributions in previous seasons. The team management will now have to look at alternative bowling options to maintain balance in the squad.
The immediate future of Yash Dayal in cricket will depend heavily on the outcome of the legal proceedings. Until then, RCB appears committed to maintaining a wait-and-watch stance.
