Fans can no longer hold back their excitement as football’s biggest spectacle moves a step closer, with the governing body FIFA officially releasing the complete schedule for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, detailing the dates, venues and match timings for the historic tournament. The 2026 edition will be the first World Cup to be jointly hosted by three nations — the US, Canada and Mexico. This edition will feature 48 teams and 104 matches, making it the largest World Cup in history.
The tournament will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026, and the opening match will be played at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The competition will last for more than a month, with the final match scheduled for July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium.

48-team format, historic move
The 2026 World Cup will mark a major shift, with the number of participating teams increasing from 32 to 48, making it a historic moment in the football world. The expanded structure will result in 104 matches, making it the largest edition of the tournament in football history.
The group stage will be followed by knockout rounds beginning with the Round of 32, a stage that did not exist in previous editions. This change is expected to allow more nations to compete on football’s biggest stage.
