India’s Yuki Bhambri and his Swedish partner Andre Goransson moved into the pre-quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Masters men’s doubles event after registering a convincing straight-sets victory in the opening round. The Indo-Swedish duo looked in complete control throughout the match and wrapped up the contest with ease, delivering one of the most dominant performances of the round.

Bhambri–Goransson dominate opening round

Bhambri and Goransson defeated the French-Dutch pair of Fabrice Martin and David Pel 6-1, 6-3 to book their place in the Round of 16. The match lasted less than an hour as the Indo-Swedish pair dictated play from the very beginning.

The duo started strongly, breaking their opponents’ serve early in the first set and quickly building momentum. Their aggressive returning and solid net play left Martin and Pel struggling to find rhythm. Bhambri and Goransson continued to apply pressure and comfortably sealed the first set 6-1.

The second set was slightly more competitive, but the Indo-Swedish pair maintained control. With consistent serving and sharp coordination at the net, they secured another crucial break before closing out the set 6-3 to complete a straight-sets win.

Pre-quarterfinal test awaits

With this victory, Bhambri and Goransson advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the prestigious ATP Masters 1000 tournament at Indian Wells. The event is one of the most important stops on the ATP Tour outside the Grand Slams and features some of the best players in the world.

The pair will next face the team of Sander Arends and Jiri Lehecka, who caused a major upset by defeating the second-seeded duo of Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool in the previous round.

Bhambri, currently India’s leading doubles player, will now look to carry this momentum into the next round as he aims for a deep run at Indian Wells alongside Goransson.
