One of the favourite food apps, Swiggy, has rolled out a huge update. Ending the confusion over where to order food from or buy groceries and book tables from a large number of restaurants, the App said that people can now do all this through platforms like ChatGPT, Claude and Google Gemini.
Through these AI platforms, consumers can access Swiggy Food, Instamart and Dineout services, according to a report by news agency Indian Express.

Chat and order your food
With the recent update, users are able to place requests simply by sending text messages via the chat application. In addition, due to the availability of this feature, users will now no longer have to work through menus or switch between applications. The users can now simply describe what they want and the AI assistance will perform all of the task necessary to provide users with a completed order via Swiggy's platform.
This work is accomplished using Model Context Protocol (MCP). Swiggy states that MCP allows the use of secure connections between AI tools and Swiggy's platforms in real-time, allowing the AI to receive and process user requests end-to-end from searching for items to checking out.
How does food delivery work?
In food delivery, a user can communicate with the AI for ordering food (e.g., what type of food) or by asking for a food recommendation based on a certain average rating. Following this request, the AI will search the available menu items on the Swiggy platform, place those items into the shopping cart for the user, apply any available discounts, proceed with process of verifying the shipping address where the user requested delivery to, and once confirmed, proceed with submitting the order. After an order is placed, a user can ask the AI to provide updates on when an order is to be delivered.
Placing orders for groceries
Users can order grocery items from Instamart using the same process as described above. Users can ask the AI to create a shopping list, order items for an upcoming event, or select grocery products based on a recipe they have. Swiggy said that Instamart is now providing users 40,000+ products, making it the first quick commerce grocery delivery application to use MCP technology.

Here's how you can book a table
Dining services will also be offered. A user may ask for restaurant information, table availability, how to use their current offer and make reservations using Dineout within the same conversation with the AI.
How to use feature?
To use the feature, users will have to link their Swiggy services in the respective AI application. This means they will open settings, add customised connectors to their Swiggy food delivery, Instamart or Dineout link, and then use chat commands to place the order.
Madhusudhan Rao, chief technology officer at Swiggy, was quoted as saying by Business Standard that the process will bring ease and personalisation, making on-demand convenience feel effortless.
"Swiggy has always focused on solving for convenience at scale and conversational commerce takes that a step further by allowing users to simply express what they want, when they want it, whether it is to book a table at their favourite restaurant or order drinks and snacks for a match-viewing party," Business Standard reported him saying.
