In a major update to its laptop range, Apple has introduced new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models powered by the latest M5-series chips, featuring significantly enhanced performance and bigger base storage as standard. The announcement marks a notable upgrade for both everyday users and professionals, with pre-orders beginning March 4, 2026 and availability expected from March 11 across global markets.

Bigger storage, faster chips

The updated MacBook Air now comes equipped with the brand-new M5 chip, delivering faster CPU and GPU performance and improved on-device artificial intelligence capabilities. A key upgrade is the base storage doubling to 512 GB, up from the smaller capacity in previous generations. It is a move that gives users more space for files and applications without forcing costly storage upgrades. Models can be configured up to as much as 4 TB, catering to power users and creative workflows.

Alongside storage improvements, the MacBook Air gains faster SSD performance and enhanced connectivity powered by Apple’s N1 wireless chip, bringing Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support. The lightweight design remains unchanged, but the performance leap, combined with up to 18 hours of battery life, offers a compelling choice for students, professionals, and creators alike. The refreshed MacBook Pro line features even more powerful silicon, the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. It is built using Apple’s new Fusion architecture that blends high-performance cores with next-generation GPUs. These chips deliver substantial gains over previous generations, with base storage now starting at 1 TB for Pro models and 2 TB for Max variants, alongside much faster SSD read/write speeds and extended memory bandwidth for demanding tasks such as video editing and AI workloads.
