As clouds of colour rose above neighbourhoods and festive music echoed through the streets, the Delhi Police kept a watchful eye across the national capital on Wednesday. Determined to ensure that the celebration did not spill into chaos, officers maintained a strict vigil in multiple districts, conducting vehicle checks, issuing challans and stepping up patrols throughout the day.

Citywide checks and traffic enforcement

According to HT, in Paschim Vihar, elaborate security arrangements were rolled out early in the morning. Police Commissioner Satish Golcha personally reviewed ground-level deployments and interacted with personnel stationed in the area. He greeted officers on duty and distributed sweets, acknowledging their role in safeguarding public order during one of the city’s most vibrant festivals.

Elsewhere, enforcement was equally visible. In Govindpuri, police teams launched special drives targeting drunk driving. Vehicles with dark-tinted windows were stopped and inspected, while fines were imposed on violators as part of preventive action.

In Laxmi Nagar in East Delhi, traffic rule enforcement intensified. Officers stopped bikers riding without helmets, those carrying three or more passengers and motorists flouting basic road safety norms. Vehicles were seized on the spot if drivers failed to produce valid documents. Near Laxmi Nagar Metro Station in the Shakarpur police station area, challans were issued to motorists violating regulations. Officials said the heightened checks were intended to prevent accidents and maintain public safety amid the high-spirited celebrations.

Preventive measures ahead of the festival

The stepped-up vigil followed intensified preparations a day earlier. Senior officials had confirmed additional deployments in sensitive areas and reinforced border checks to keep troublemakers at bay. Police also identified known bootleggers and initiated preventive action. Meetings were held with local security committees to assess preparedness based on lessons from previous years. The approach combined visible enforcement with community coordination, aimed at ensuring a smooth observance of the festival.
