In a bid to keep global connectivity intact amid widespread aviation disruptions caused by the escalating situation in West Asia, Air India has announced the deployment of additional long-haul flights to Toronto, Frankfurt and Paris. The move comes as the airline adapts to higher passenger demand and rerouted flight paths due to restricted airspace over conflict-affected regions.

More flights to North America and Europe

According to HT, Air India has revealed that it will operate three extra services between Delhi and Toronto from March 5 to March 11, aiming to support travellers looking for alternative connections during the travel crunch. The additional flights are expected to help clear backlogs and offer more flexibility on the India–Canada route at a time when conventional Gulf airspace routes have been affected by the ongoing crisis. In Europe, the carrier plans to run three extra flights between Delhi and Frankfurt from March 7 to March 10 and a single additional service to Paris-Charles de Gaulle over the same period. These flights are being introduced amid high demand from passengers seeking more travel options as airlines navigate around restricted airspace and longer routing. Air India has said it is closely monitoring travel demand and the evolving situation and may extend or expand these additional services beyond March 11 if necessary. Officials noted that the airline’s network will continue to adapt to passenger needs and operational conditions during the ongoing crisis.

Adjusting operations amid tensions

The deployment of extra flights comes against a backdrop of significant adjustments in flight operations from India. Earlier in the crisis, several long-haul and West Asia-bound flights were cancelled or rerouted to avoid affected airspace, and airlines have been coordinating with regulatory authorities to remain operational while ensuring passenger safety. India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has also been coordinating special repatriation services and advising travellers to check updated flight statuses before departure.

With disruptions to conventional routes continuing, Air India’s decision to add flights to Toronto, Frankfurt and Paris underscores its efforts to sustain international connectivity and meet surging demand. As the airline adjusts its schedule in real time, passengers are likely to benefit from more choices and improved access to long-haul travel amidst the prevailing geopolitical uncertainty.
