Millions of Facebook users worldwide faced disruptions after the social media platform suffered a widespread outage, affecting both the main Facebook service and Facebook Messenger.
The issue left many users unexpectedly logged out of their accounts, while attempts to sign back in resulted in error messages and failed login requests.
Downdetector also showed a sharp spike in user reports as thousands experienced login issues and Messenger disruptions
Users unable to access Facebook
Reports of problems began surfacing rapidly as users found themselves unable to use Facebook normally. Many were automatically signed out and could not regain access. Those trying to log in were shown a message stating that "an unexpected error occurred".

The outage was not limited to the mobile app. Facebook's website also experienced issues, displaying a notice that read: "something went wrong" and that the company is "working on it and we'll get it fixed as soon as we can".
Messenger services also affected
Alongside Facebook, Messenger users reported difficulties accessing the messaging platform.
The disruption appeared to be concentrated on Facebook-related services, while other Meta-owned platforms largely remained available.
Instagram and WhatsApp largely remain online
Although Meta's products share parts of the same underlying infrastructure, services such as Instagram and WhatsApp appeared to continue operating for most users during the outage.
However, some issues were reported on Instagram's website, suggesting that certain Meta services may have experienced limited disruption.

No official consumer status update
Meta does not maintain a public status page dedicated to its consumer-facing platforms, making it difficult for users to obtain official updates during major outages.
The company does operate a status page for business tools, but at the time of publication, it had not been updated to reflect the Facebook disruption.
Outage tracking sites also experienced issues
Downdetector, a popular platform that tracks online service disruptions through user reports, also appeared to experience technical problems around the same period.
It remains unclear whether the problems affecting Downdetector were connected to the Facebook outage.
