YouTube is editing videos with AI. Just saying this much won't explain the matter properly. The reason behind this is quite lengthy.

Users' videos are being edited without informing them. This has sparked a major controversy. YouTube is currently the most attractive platform for content creators worldwide. It's also a medium for earning good amounts of money by creating content for viewers. If allegations arise against that very YouTube of editing something on its own, and that too with AI, it's bound to create a stir. And that's exactly what's happening.

What exactly are the allegations against YouTube?

Users allege that YouTube is deliberately editing many of their posted videos. Folds in clothes within videos are being made more distinct. Skin tones are being changed. They're being made sharper. Users allege that the difference is very clearly visible. Overall, these edited videos are being given such a feel that makes it apparent there's an AI touch to them. This is the main objection of users.

They're saying in unison that they create content with great effort. If there's an AI touch to it, then that content is bound to lose credibility. Similarly, many are very upset that YouTube authorities are doing this editing work without informing them.

Many users are saying in this regard that this isn't improving video quality, but rather reducing it. This isn't the end. The quality of editing that AI is doing is getting worse while trying to make it better. And they could have done this quality of editing themselves. Above all, the question being raised is whether YouTube can do such editing without informing anyone at all!

What are YouTube authorities saying about this allegation?

YouTube's content head, Rene Ritchie, has tried to put an end to this controversy by posting on X handle, "We're running an experiment on select YouTube Shorts that uses traditional machine learning technology to unblur, denoise, and improve clarity in videos during processing (similar to what a modern smartphone does when you record a video), YouTube is always working on ways to provide the best video quality and experience possible, and will continue to take creator and viewer feedback into consideration as we iterate and improve on these features."

Rene's statement has also created one aspect of the controversy. Questions have started arising that now almost every content creator has modern mobiles. They're shooting using those mobiles. They can do good quality editing with those mobiles themselves. Still, why is AI being used? However, no answer to this question has been found from YouTube's side. But the controversy isn't stopping there. Many are questioning whether AI control has begun on YouTube, too. Though the answer remains elusive for now.
