Diet Coke has made a fresh return to the Indian market, this time in glass bottle packaging that is quickly going viral online for both its aesthetic appeal and its price tag.

The Coca-Cola beverage, which recently faced reported supply shortages in India, is now being sold in 200 ml glass bottles on quick-commerce platforms, with a single bottle priced at ₹100 which is more than three times the cost of a regular Diet Coke can of the same quantity.

The development has sparked widespread discussion across social media platforms, where users are reacting to the premium pricing and limited-edition feel of the new packaging. According to listings spotted on Blinkit, a pack of six 200 ml glass bottles is currently priced at ₹600, with discounted rates bringing it down to around ₹480 in some locations.

Social media buzz grows around premium packaging

The latest round of online attention intensified after content creator Agrima Chopra shared a video featuring the new glass bottle variant on Blinkit. The clip quickly gained traction online, drawing millions of views.

Earlier, Reddit users had also claimed to have spotted the glass bottle edition in Chandigarh months ago, suggesting the rollout may have begun quietly in select markets.

The return of Diet Coke comes shortly after reports of supply disruptions linked to delayed shipments from Gulf markets amid tensions involving Iran and disruptions in shipping routes. Diet Coke has long maintained a loyal urban consumer base in India, especially among younger consumers who frequently discuss the beverage online as part of lifestyle and food culture trends.

Same beverage, different experience — and a much higher price

While the drink itself remains unchanged, the new packaging has significantly altered the pricing.

A standard 200 ml Diet Coke can is typically priced around ₹30, while the glass bottle version costs ₹100 for the same quantity.

The pricing difference has triggered mixed reactions online, with some users describing the glass bottles as “collectible” and “premium”, while others questioned whether the packaging justifies the sharp markup.

The premium packaging strategy also reflects a growing trend in the beverage industry, where brands increasingly market familiar products through nostalgic or luxury-style presentation to create social media appeal.

‘Diet Coke parties’ add to the beverage’s online cult following

The recent supply shortage had already pushed Diet Coke into viral internet culture in parts of India.

Some restaurants and bars, particularly in Delhi, reportedly began hosting themed “Diet Coke parties”, capitalising on the drink’s cult-like popularity among urban consumers.

The events drew attention online as users shared memes, videos and posts about the beverage shortage and the lengths fans were willing to go to secure cans.

Coca-Cola has not officially commented on whether the glass bottle edition is a limited rollout or part of a broader long-term packaging strategy for India.
