A video from a luxury resort in Bali has gone viral after a group of Indian tourists were allegedly caught taking hotel property while checking out. The incident, which took place on April 19, 2026, has sparked widespread attention and debate on social media over tourist behaviour abroad.
The guests had been staying at Asvara Resort Ubud for a short vacation. What began as a routine checkout soon turned into an unexpected situation when hotel staff noticed discrepancies in the room inventory.
Routine check leads to discovery
According to NDTV report, the hotel staff suspected that certain items were missing from the rooms occupied by the guests. As part of the standard checkout process, they decided to inspect the luggage before the tourists left the property.

During the inspection, staff reportedly found several hotel items packed inside the guests’ bags. The recovered items included bath towels, pool towels, kimono-style robes, a hair dryer, a doormat, a TV remote box, and even dining utensils.
The items were taken out and arranged in front of the guests, clearly showing the extent of what had been removed from the rooms. The checkout process was paused as the situation was addressed on the spot.
Matter settled without escalation
Despite the seriousness of the discovery, the issue did not lead to legal action. Authorities confirmed that the matter was resolved internally between the hotel management and the guests.
All the items were returned to the hotel, and no formal police complaint was filed. After the situation was settled, the tourists were allowed to leave. The hotel chose not to pursue further action, bringing a quiet end to the incident at the property itself.
Video goes viral online
While the matter was resolved privately, the video of the incident quickly made its way onto social media platforms, where it gained widespread attention. The footage shows hotel staff unpacking the luggage and displaying the items that had allegedly been taken.

Indian tourists, who stayed at Ubud, Bali (Indonesia) were caught by hotel-staff stealing stuff from the hotel.
Why would you go to a foreign country and do such cheap act/crime??
This is embarrassing to watch as an Indian. pic.twitter.com/ETtxJArCgl
The viral clip triggered strong reactions online. Many users expressed embarrassment and disappointment, with several calling the behaviour inappropriate and harmful to the image of Indian travellers abroad.
Others questioned why such actions would occur during an international trip, especially at a high-end resort. Some also called for stricter rules or penalties to discourage similar incidents in the future.
Spotlight on responsible travel
The incident has once again brought focus to the importance of responsible travel behaviour. While cases like this are not common, they tend to attract attention because of the broader implications they carry.
Respecting hotel property and local norms is considered a basic expectation when travelling. The episode has reignited conversations around how individual actions can shape perceptions in global travel spaces.
Though the situation in Bali was resolved without escalation, its impact continues through the ongoing online discussion it has generated.
