A routine food order turned into a surprising experience for a Delhi woman after a glitch on Zomato led to a delivery meant for multiple people.

Order mix-up turns into unexpected feast

Instagram user Shatakshee Kar had ordered a simple meal for herself, including a raw mango salad and mock meat skewers from Burma Burma. Expecting a light meal, she instead received a large delivery bag filled with food portions enough to serve nearly five people. Suspecting an error, she checked with the delivery partner and found that while the order number matched hers, the customer details did not. On further inspection, it became clear that her order had likely been merged with another due to a system issue.

Refund issued as platform admits confusion

Kar contacted Zomato’s customer support, where even the restaurant reportedly could not explain the mix-up. She was informed that the error may have occurred because both orders included a common item, the raw mango salad, leading to confusion in processing. As a resolution, Zomato issued her a refund for one of the dishes while allowing her to keep the entire order. The result was an unusual situation: a surplus of food, a partial refund, and a glitch that worked in the customer’s favour. Kar later shared the incident on Instagram, where it quickly went viral, drawing reactions from users who recounted similar delivery mishaps.

While the incident ended on a humorous note, it highlights potential gaps in order management systems used by food delivery platforms. As such services grow, ensuring accuracy in handling overlapping or similar orders will be key to maintaining customer trust.
