A photo from inside the Dolby Theatre after the 2026 Oscars has set off a storm online, showing rows of seats strewn with empty bottles, snack packets and food wrappers once the ceremony wrapped up on Sunday night.

The image was shared on X by Matt Neglia, editor-in-chief of Next Best Picture, with a caption that read, “Clean up on aisle ALL.” Within hours, it began circulating widely, drawing millions of views and a flood of reactions.

Social media calls out the mess

Many users were quick to question the scene, pointing to what they saw as a lack of basic courtesy at one of the film industry’s biggest events. Some comments also highlighted the contrast between public messaging around sustainability and the condition of the venue after the show.

“Save the mountains, keep them clean, blah blah blah… but look at the mess they leave. Nobody’s buying it anymore. As the saying goes: A lion is revealed by where it lies,” one user wrote.

Another added, “Classic example of money can’t buy class.”

Others focused on individual responsibility, asking why attendees did not take their waste along while exiting the theatre. “Is it a forgotten art to simply take your trash with you as you leave? You’re leaving anyway, just walk out with your stuff,” a user commented.

Questions over venue management

Not all reactions were aimed at guests. A section of users suggested that the situation may also reflect gaps in planning inside the venue. Some pointed out that the absence or poor placement of waste bins could have contributed to the mess.

“The Oscars may have been glamorous, but the aftermath shows a major planning oversight: not a single waste station in sight! With thousands of guests enjoying food and drinks, accessible bins in each aisle would have made ‘Clean up on aisle ALL’ a non-issue. Sometimes, the little logistics make the biggest difference,” one comment remarked.
