A viral claim circulating on social media has alleged that Israeli missiles struck the North Korean embassy in Tehran and that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reacted by warning Israel that it had made a “huge mistake.” However, there is no credible evidence supporting either the alleged strike or the statement attributed to the North Korean leader.

Viral claim about embassy strike

The claim began spreading through several unverified profiles on the social media platform X. Posts shared screenshots of what appeared to be a statement attributed to Kim Jong Un, claiming that Israel had targeted the North Korean embassy in Tehran with missiles.

According to the circulating posts, Kim Jong Un had warned that Israel had committed a major error by carrying out such an attack. The claim quickly gained traction online, with many users reposting the message without verification.

However, there are no confirmed reports that the North Korean embassy in Tehran was hit by Israeli strikes.

No evidence from verified sources

Despite the widespread circulation of the claim, no credible international news organisations have reported any attack on the North Korean diplomatic mission in Tehran. Major outlets, including Reuters, NK News, and the Korean Central News Agency, have not reported such an incident.

The viral quote attributed to Kim Jong Un also appears to lack any official confirmation from North Korean authorities.

An AI-based fact check by the chatbot Grok also noted that the claim remains unverified. It said, "Unverified rumor. Social media claims Israel struck or damaged the North Korean embassy in Tehran, sparking Kim Jong-un reaction quotes—but no confirmation from Reuters, NK News, KCNA, or any major outlet.”

"North Korea did condemn recent US/Israeli strikes on Iran as "illegal aggression" and backed Iran's new leader, but nothing specific about their embassy. Likely misinformation amid the conflict', it further added.

North Korea’s official position on Iran conflict

Reportedly, North Korea voiced support for Iran’s appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Supreme Leader while condemning the US and Israel for what it called aggression against Iran.

“Regarding the recent official announcement that the Iranian Assembly of Experts has elected a new leader of the Islamic Revolution, we respect the right and choice of the Iranian people to elect their Supreme Leader", a spokesperson for North Korea’s foreign ministry said, according to a report by Al Jazeera citing KCNA.

“We express grave concern and strongly condemn the aggression of the United States and Israel, which, by launching an unlawful military attack against Iran, are undermining the foundations of regional peace and security and increasing instability in the international landscape,” the statement further stated.

As of now, there is no verified evidence that Israel targeted the North Korean embassy in Tehran or that Kim Jong Un issued the viral warning circulating online.
