This, however, is the second earthquake in China within a span of 5 days. The earlier took place on 5th March with a magnitude of 4.9 in the Xinjiang region at a depth of just 10 km, thus heavily vulnerable to aftershocks. The NCS report of 5th March noted, “Q of M: 4.3, On: 10/03/2026 11:47:06 IST, Lat: 35.85 N, Long: 76.88 E, Depth: 165 Km, Location: Xinjiang.”

This situation raises serious concerns regarding the geography and climate around the globe. With the ever-increasing environmental hazards, shallow earthquakes have become common. Unlike those with a deeper hypocenter, shallow ones pose serious danger because the seismic waves have a shorter distance to cover to reach the surface.
