Seven Police personnel were killed in an IED blast in northwest Pakistan on Friday, according to the police reports. The incident took place in the Shadi Khel Bettani area of Lakki Marwat district whilst a police vehicle was conducting a routine patrol on March 13, 2026.

The patrolling vehicle was hit by a roadside IED near the Rasool Khel check post, leading to the death of seven police personnel. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, a banned organisation in the country, has taken responsibility for this attack. As a result of the explosion, SHO Azam, police driver Shah Bahram, and four other police personnel were killed on the spot.

According to the reports of the local police, SHO Azam, the driver of the vehicle, Shah Bahram, and four other police officers were killed on the spot as soon as the explosion took place.

Among them, one policeman, Insafuddin, was immediately rushed to the hospital. But could not make it through. The Police and security forces blocked off the area and set up a security perimeter before launching a search operation against the perpetrators. An investigation has begun to gather evidence from the blast site and trace the perpetrators behind the attack.

According to the official reports, Pakistani President, Mr Asif Ali Zardari, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif both strongly condemned the terrorist attack. In a statement, the President upheld the sacrifices of the police officers and provided a clarion call to eradicate the scourge of terrorism from the country.

In a separate statement, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government's resolve to eliminate terrorism from Pakistan and said that the sacrifices of the police and the security forces would not go in vain.

Adding to this list was the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who also condemned the incident and expressed his grief for the loss of lives in the dreadful incident. In a statement issued from the Chief Minister’s secretariat, Mr Afridi reportedly sought a detailed report of the incident from the police department and has ensured complete assistance from the provincial government in the investigations and search operations against the terrorists.
