Netflix has revealed a major update to its mobile app experience as part of its APAC Product Innovation Showcase, introducing a new short-form video feature called 'Clips' and outlining ambitious plans to expand its gaming ecosystem. The company says the changes are designed to make content discovery easier while offering subscribers more ways to engage with entertainment beyond movies and TV shows.

Netflix introduces ‘Clips’ for faster content discovery

At the heart of the update is 'Clips', a personalised vertical video feed that allows users to browse short snippets from Netflix shows, films and specials. Similar to the short-form video format popular on social media platforms, the feature aims to help users quickly discover content they may want to watch.

Users can save titles to their watchlist, share clips with friends, or jump directly to a show's page from the feed. Netflix says recommendations within Clips will be tailored based on viewing habits and user interactions.

New mobile experience rolling out across Asia-Pacific

The redesigned mobile interface is already available in India, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and the Philippines, with launches planned for South Korea and Japan in July. More APAC markets are expected to receive the update in the coming months.

Reportedly, Netflix said that the redesign focuses on streamlined navigation and a more intuitive mobile experience, helping users find content more quickly.

Gaming becomes a bigger part of Netflix

The streaming giant also highlighted its growing investment in gaming. During the event, Netflix executives described games as a natural extension of the company's entertainment strategy, particularly as gaming continues to attract billions of users worldwide.

A key part of this push is Netflix Playground, a dedicated section for children's games and interactive experiences. The company announced that a new collection of mini-games based on K-pop Demon Hunters will launch on June 20.

Building a more personalised Netflix

In addition to Clips and gaming, Netflix is expanding curated content collections and themed hubs to help viewers discover titles based on interests, moods and cultural events. These personalised recommendations are intended to make browsing feel more relevant and engaging.

The company says the broader goal is to transform Netflix into a more interactive entertainment platform, blending video, games and personalised discovery tools into a single experience.
