Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa produced a commanding display to defeat reigning world champion D Gukesh in just 34 moves at the prestigious Norway Chess 2026 on Thursday.

The victory came in a crucial round of the tournament and helped Praggnanandhaa remain firmly in the hunt for the title heading into the final day. It also served as sweet revenge after Gukesh had emerged victorious when the two Indian stars met earlier in the competition.

Playing with the white pieces, Praggnanandhaa seized the initiative early and steadily increased pressure on the world champion. Gukesh struggled to find accurate responses as the position became increasingly difficult.
