What began as a stressful travel mishap for a foreign tourist in Kerala ended with an act of kindness that has touched thousands online. The woman's account of how a stranger went out of his way to return her lost debit card has since gone viral on social media.

A forgotten card sparks panic

A solo traveller, identified on Instagram as @indiawitkin, shared how she accidentally left her debit card at an ATM in a small beach town in Kerala while travelling alone in India. She only realised the card was missing after reaching a larger city nearly five hours away.

Earlier that day, she had visited a DHL office to send a parcel to the United States. During the process, she exchanged contact details with an employee there, a common practice for coordinating transactions and deliveries through WhatsApp. When she discovered her card was gone, she contacted him and asked if he could check whether it was still at the ATM.

Hope amid a tight deadline

The traveller said she spent the following day hoping the card would be found. In her post, she wrote, "Prayed to every Hindu God and Goddess I could think of." Around 24 hours later, she learned that the card had indeed been located and was found on top of the ATM, as per Hindustan Times.

However, recovering it remained difficult. She was scheduled to leave India within 36 hours, and because it was a Sunday, arranging a shipment or formal retrieval seemed nearly impossible.

A six-hour journey to help a stranger

According to the tourist's account, the DHL employee decided to take matters into his own hands. Accompanied by two friends, he reportedly travelled for around six hours in a tuk-tuk to personally deliver the card. The effort turned into a 14-hour round trip undertaken on his day off, according to Hindustan Times.

The traveller said she was overwhelmed by the gesture, especially because the man had only briefly met her earlier that day. When she offered to compensate him for the journey, he declined.

A story that resonated online

In her post, she referred to the man as Krishna and wrote, "The Hindu god of love, compassion, and protection. Tell me karma doesn't exist. Hopefully, this story restores your faith in humanity, because it did for me."
