A major political transition appears to be unfolding in Bihar as the NDA prepares for a Cabinet expansion under Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. The development has gained attention amid reports that Nishant Kumar, son of veteran leader Nitish Kumar, is likely to take oath as part of the new Cabinet on Thursday.

If it happens, it would mark Nishant Kumar's first formal entry into governance after years of speculation about his political future.

Nishant Kumar may take active role

According to a senior JD(U) leader, Nishant Kumar has recently indicated his willingness to become more involved in public and political affairs.

"Nishant, who had so far avoided taking any formal political or governmental role despite growing speculation over his future, recently conveyed his willingness to play a more active role," said the senior JD(U) leader, per a Hindustan Times report.

The leader also said discussions are underway regarding an informal "core team" around Nishant Kumar within the Cabinet structure. Some younger JD(U) legislators may also be inducted to support what party insiders describe as a next-generation leadership transition.

Young JD(U) leaders in focus

Several younger faces from the JD(U) are reportedly being discussed for possible Cabinet positions. These include Rahul Ranjan, Navin Kumar Mandal, Chetan Anand, Komal Singh, Rituraj Kumar, Atirek Kumar, Aditya Kumar and Abhishek Anand.

"The final names will only become clear once the swearing-in ceremony takes place on Thursday," the JD(U) leader said.

On the BJP side, names such as Mangal Pandey, Neeraj Kumar Singh Babloo and Ram Kripal Yadav are among those under discussion.

NDA allies and caste equations

The Cabinet expansion is also expected to accommodate NDA allies, including Chirag Paswan's party, Hindustani Awam Morcha and Rashtriya Lok Morcha.

Political analyst Sanjay Upadhyay described Nishant Kumar's possible induction as a sign of JD(U)'s preparations for a post-Nitish era.

"It will consolidate the Kurmi-Koiri (Luv-Kush) vote-base for the NDA as Samrat is now the undisputed leader of Koiri (Kushwaha) and Nishant is the new crown of Kurmi," he said.

Party insiders said caste balance and generational transition are likely to remain key factors in the final cabinet composition.
