Attack outside Escondido home
Per HT, Escondido police said officers responded to reports of an assault near East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street at around 2:14 pm on Wednesday. When officers arrived, they found Sheron with serious injuries.
Authorities said the suspect fled the scene before police reached the area. He was later located a few blocks away near East Mission and Begonia and identified as Thomas Caleb Butler.
Sheron’s wife, Maria, said her husband, who she described as an Army veteran, was attacked while working on his truck outside their home.
The house had become locally well known because of the large Trump-themed flags, banners and political messages displayed outside the property.
Thomas Caleb Butler has been charged with first-degree attempted murder after he beat 69-year-old Kerry Sheron so badly that Sheron is now on life support fighting for his life.

Wife links attack to political displays
Maria said the family had previously faced verbal hostility linked to their political views and the decorations outside the house.
“They don't like the flags. I don't know why. I support America. My husband is [a] veteran. He tried to kill my husband, you know. It's terrible. I don't know what kind of hate... what heart, the black heart,” she told CBS8.
However, reports also stated that Butler was from the same neighbourhood and reportedly supported President Donald Trump as a registered Republican.
According to The California Post, Butler had served in the Navy and was unemployed. A family friend reportedly said he had been struggling with mental health issues and was on medication.
