It has left three Hill constituencies in Darjeeling for the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM), led by Anit Thapa. The press conference took place at Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence in the afternoon.

Just hours ahead of the announcement, the Trinamool Congress has inducted several new members into the party. Among them is former Bengal cricketer Shib Shankar Pal, a right-arm fast bowler who represented Bengal for years and also played for India A. Currently associated with cricket coaching, he runs his own academy. Educationists Tanushree Hansda and Mohammad Abdul Matin also joined the party. Legal professional Mangal Soren was inducted at the party’s Jhargram district office. Their inclusion highlights the party’s outreach to individuals from diverse professional backgrounds. The latest additions come amid a series of recent high-profile inductions. BJP MLA from Kurseong, Bishnu Prasad Sharma, recently joined the TMC, followed by CPM leader Pratikur Rahman. In another significant development, Dipendu Biswas, a former TMC MLA who had switched to the BJP, rejoined the party after five years. He formally returned at the Basirhat party office, where 27 other public representatives cutting across Congress and BJP also joined the Trinamool Congress.
