Allegations of irregularities in the Yubasathi scheme triggered protests in West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district on Monday, with several youths gathering outside the Chopra BDO office claiming they had not received their entitled benefits.
The protesters alleged that despite applying for the scheme: both online and offline; no money had been credited to their accounts even after several days. Instead, they claimed, the funds were transferred to other accounts.
One of the protesters, Montajul Haque, said, “I received a message on my mobile about money being deposited. But the money has entered someone else's account. Someone or some people have done this conspiracy through fraud.”

Another protester, Mohammad Mihir, alleged discrepancies in eligibility. “We have received information that those whose age has passed or whose age has not reached have also received Yubasathi money. The administration will have to answer for this,” he said.
Following the protest, a large police force reached the spot. Chopra police station IC Manojit Das, along with other officials, held discussions with the agitating youths. The protesters were later taken to meet BDO Sourav Majhi. The BDO informed that the process is currently on hold due to election-related workload. He assured that the matter would be reviewed after the elections and necessary action would be taken promptly. The protesters dispersed after receiving this assurance.
