Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the BJP is confident of forming the next government in West Bengal, and claimed he would celebrate the victory by offering Bardhaman's traditional sweets to the Prime Minister after the results on May 4. He was addressing a campaign rally at CB Maidan in Jamalpur, East Bardhaman, in support of party candidate Arun Haldar.

Shah spoke ahead of the second and final phase of polling scheduled for April 29, with campaigning set to end on Monday evening. Taking the stage around 3:30 PM, he urged supporters to remain confident. "Clench your fists with determination for victory. That resolve will give you courage," he said. Claiming early success, he added, "In the first phase, the BJP has already secured 110 seats. The party is moving towards forming the government in Bengal." Referring to post-result celebrations, he said, "After May 4, we will celebrate by offering Bardhaman's mihidana and sitabhog to the Prime Minister."

Attack on state government

Targeting the ruling Trinamool Congress, Shah alleged deterioration in law and order. "For the past 15 years, governance has been marked by fear. Women do not feel safe," he said, citing incidents in places like RG Kar, Sandeshkhali, and Durgapur. He added, "When the BJP forms the government, women will be able to move freely at any hour. Strict action will be taken against anyone who threatens their safety."

He also accused local networks of intimidation during elections. "There are complaints of threats by syndicates. Action will be taken against such elements after the elections," he said.

Development promises and welfare plans

Shah raised local development issues in Jamalpur, questioning infrastructure gaps. "Key works like a subway at the level crossing are still pending. People are facing unnecessary charges," he said. He promised that such issues would be addressed if the BJP comes to power.

On welfare, Shah outlined several proposed schemes. "We will ensure proper implementation of central housing funds and recover any misused money," he said. He added that the BJP would implement Seventh Pay Commission benefits, provide financial assistance to women, unemployment allowances, and support for farmers. "Free healthcare up to ₹5 lakh will be ensured, and additional benefits will be extended to the elderly and persons with disabilities," he said.

The rally concluded with Shah reiterating the party's confidence ahead of polling and calling on voters to support the BJP in the upcoming phase.
