The ISC Class 12 results for 2026 have highlighted a strong academic performance from West Bengal, with several students achieving top scores and a large number crossing high percentage brackets.

Seven students from the state secured a flawless 400 out of 400. The toppers include Harshit Agarwal of La Martiniere for Boys, Agnibho Chakraborty of St James' School, Sujato Pal of Vivekananda Mission School, Joka, Ilina Rajkumar Udani of The Heritage School, Anan Rami of DPS Megacity, Rashi Choubey of Mahbert High School in Siliguri and Anushka Ghosh of St Xavier's Institution, Panihati, per The Times of India.

High scores across the board

Out of 28,791 students who appeared for the ISC exam in Bengal, 2,718 reportedly scored above 95%, while 4,237 students secured marks between 90% and 95%. The overall pass percentage stood at 99.13, a slight increase of 0.07% compared to last year, per TOI.

School-wise data also reflects consistent high performance. At St Xavier's Collegiate School, 100 out of 169 students scored above 90%. La Martiniere for Boys recorded 108 out of 170 students crossing the 90% mark, while La Martiniere for Girls saw 106 out of 170 achieving similar results. Modern High School reported 135 out of 154 students scoring above 90%, per TOI report.

Shift in exam pattern shows results

Educators attributed the strong performance to changes in the CISCE examination pattern, which now focuses more on analytical and application-based learning. The weightage of critical analysis questions has gradually increased from 10% to 40% this year and is expected to reach 50% by 2027.

La Martiniere for Girls principal Rupkatha Sarkar was quoted as saying by TOI, "Students are now slowly getting used to the shift from rote learning to conceptual learning, and it is showing. Those who did well up to a certain percentage in class 10, have done very well in class 12 as the change took place gradually. While they were still adjusting to the change in class 10, they adjusted better in class 12."

Per TOI, Modern High School principal Damayanti Mukherjee added, "We teach them case study methods and train them through a research-oriented approach. It helped students respond effectively."

Despite some subjects like physics and psychology being considered slightly tricky, students managed to score well. Commerce and science streams performed particularly strongly, even as some schools noted a dip in economics scores.

Overall, the results reflect consistent high achievement and adaptation to evolving exam patterns.
