After weeks of humid and uncomfortable weather, rain has finally brought relief to large parts of South Bengal. The temperature in Kolkata has fallen sharply, making conditions significantly more pleasant. With the monsoon now active across West Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain over the coming days.
The weather department has predicted thunderstorms and rain in Kolkata and several South Bengal districts on Saturday, coinciding with Jamai Shashthi celebrations. Rainfall activity is expected to continue in North Bengal as well.
Kolkata weather: Cooler conditions after recent rain
Although Kolkata woke up to bright sunshine on Saturday, the usual discomfort associated with the summer heat was largely absent. According to the IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely to develop over the city during the afternoon and evening hours. Gusty winds may also accompany the showers.

The city has witnessed a noticeable drop in temperature. Kolkata's minimum temperature on Saturday was recorded at 24.4 degrees Celsius, which is 2.4 degrees below normal. The maximum temperature stood at 29.0 degrees Celsius, nearly 4.8 degrees below the seasonal average.

Orange alert issued for several South Bengal districts
Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of South Bengal on Saturday. The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for Hooghly, Purba Bardhaman, South 24 Parganas, East Medinipur and West Medinipur districts.
These areas may also experience strong winds along with thunderstorms.
The weather is unlikely to improve immediately, with rain and thunderstorms expected to persist on Sunday as well. Wind speeds during storms could reach 40 to 50 kmph in some places.
The recent spell of rain has already brought down temperatures by around 2 to 4 degrees Celsius across several districts of South Bengal. According to the weather office, rainfall activity is expected to continue across the region for now.
